Mid-Year Assessment

"Desire is the key to motivation, but it is determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal, and a commitment to excellence, that will, enable you attain the success you seek." - Mario Andretti

I'm glad we all made it through the first half of the year, but if I may ask, how have you faired in respect to your goals up until this moment? Have you made significant progress in important areas of your life or did you spend most of your time, energy and resources on the not so strategic areas? Maybe you never had goals penned down for the year, whichever case it may be, its never too late to sharpen your focus and set your life on a direction through goal setting.

Its very easy for us to be drawn in different directions as multi-faceted beings which can distract us from key areas of our lives. Focus is therefore key if you must become fulfilled through your goals. So whether you're just setting fresh goals for the year or you're doing a mid year review, you need to pay attention to those areas that give meaning to your life, that's to say your goals must be in harmony with your values so you can be motivated to achieve them.

When our goals do not align with our core values they become uninspiring and unexciting. Values help you identify the principles on which you stand and help pattern your choices in that direction. When your goals are in violation of this principle, your actions as well will not support your true essence, that's when you realise you've spent your time and resources maximising areas that are not so strategic to your fulfilment. Identify the key areas of your life, decide what you want to achieve in each of these areas and draw up goals to meet these expectations.

To make progress on your goals commitment is required. You must commit to smaller task that would result in the achievement of the main goal. If your goal is to complete the book you're writing in the next 6 months, you can commit to writing a page everyday. Commitment also entails sticking to the decision to stop doing anything that can frustrate the achievement of your goals. it could be having to stop spending time with those who do not add value to your life. You should also commit to personal growth. The distance between where you are now and where you want to be is known as growth. Grow in skills and competencies required for your goals achievement.

Did I add that your goals need to be specific, measurable and attainable, yes they must meet these 3 qualities if you must be able to determine your progress as you proceed into the future. Remember, with goals, you can lead a life of focus and direction that takes you to your dream.

Have a fulfilling month.
