One uniqueness about today's woman is her love for her looks. Every woman likes to look good, we pay particular attention to our clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, perfume and make-up. Some of us are so fashion conscious we don't miss fashion shows so as to keep up with what is in vogue, all thanks to Fashion TVs, Complete Fashion magazine amongst other fashion media. We appreciate beauty a lot and the Lord indeed has made us beautiful.
We spend time and money to pamper ourselves to achieve that desired look, but sometimes we get so preoccupied with trying to look great on the outside that we forget we're spirit with a spiritual man that needs to be clothed as well. We forget that we are royalty and as such should be clothed as princesses. It is our spiritual clothing that qualifies us to be referred to as daughters of The Most High.
For the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31, the description given of her depicts that of a 21st century woman who was up to date when it came to fashion, with understanding of fabric and colour mix; yet her spiritual clothing was of more importance to her. That was her robe of righteousness which brought her strength and honour and also gave her confidence about her tomorrow, Prov.31:25 says, "Strength and Honour are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come." What is the source of your confidence? What do you glory in? There's this confidence that comes from knowing that you are one with God, standing whole and pure before Him and with your garment spotless as snow. It gives you an assurance that for everyday you live and for every step you take, you are never alone, God is standing right there with you.
Another translation of Prov. 31:25b says," strength and dignity are her clothing." The dictionary meaning of the word dignity is calm, serious and controlled behaviour that makes people respect you. A woman of strength and honour (dignity) is a woman that is respected for her calm attitude to life which is exhibited even in the face of provocation. She weighs her words before making any outburst she might regret. A woman of strength and honour is focused, she focuses her strength on things that add meaning to life and not on frivolity. She recognises that though she may not be perfect but she can draw strength from her perfect God for every of her imperfection so she can build positive relationships with people.
Your life is meant for honour and not for shame, the Lord payed a costly price for your spiritual covering. Are you wearing that robe He draped you in when you turned your life over to Him? Many Christians after looking so beautiful on the outside use fig leaves for their spiritual covering. The fig leave signifies hypocrisy and deception. It is not the real thing because it lacks the blood of the covenant, it can't guarantee your tomorrow. The fig leave cannot give you a total covering as there are still openings that allow the devil in to mess with your life and strip you of your strength and honour. The truth is, the devil knows those with the spiritual robe and those with fig leaves.
As we consult with our fashion media to keep up with the trends let's also keep an open mind with the Holy Spirit so He can teach us what garment suits our royalty as beloved princesses of the King so we can walk in His strength and honour knowing we have nothing to fear about our future.
