Waiting On The Lord - How and Why
Many a times, we take a look at where we are compared to where we're coming from in relation to how far we ought to have gone and feel not much have been achieved, we feel stagnated and unproductive as we watch the clock tick by, with nothing to show for the time that has passed, the waiting continues but without much expectation.
We need not be discouraged or give in to despair because there are benefits of waiting if we know how to wait the right way. Waiting the right way means waiting with a purpose, which allows us enjoy our waiting moment without being discouraged.
How To Wait On The Lord
1. Waiting Expectantly.
Waiting expectantly is believing and hoping that something favorable is going to happen just as you have requested. When you're expectant, you don't grow weary because you know that "your expectation shall not be cut off"- Proverbs 23:18. Let's not just pray but also have an expectation.
2. Waiting Prayerfully
We serve a God who is never weary of hearing us. He encourages us to seek Him morning, afternoon and evening. Since prayer is a two way communication, He ministers back to us in grace to help us in our waiting time. He speaks words of comfort into our spirit that urges us on so that we never want to give up waiting.
3. Waiting Meditatively
The word of God both written and revealed is the base for every of our request and expectations. Meditating on these promises offers hope to our hopeless situations, restoring our faith and building our confidence in His ability to perform. Meditating on His word also gives nourishment to our spirit helping us grow thereby.
4. Waiting Actively
Waiting on God's promises should not bring every other aspect of our lives to a standstill. In fact, the prove of our faith and expectation is in doing the things that move us closer to our dreams. Our dreams as big as they are can be broken down into smaller goals which we can go to work on, and gradually, they would all fit together to form the bigger picture.
Why Wait On The Lord (The Benefits)
• It is often said that God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called. When God calls us and places a vision in our hearts, His expectation is that we grow to the point where our disposition matches the revelation and this usually takes a process. He is not going to place anyone raw, immature and undeveloped in the midst of a fulfilled dream, He wants to first build us in character as integrity is of essence in His calling. How much of our character is developed will depend on how much we are willing to wait.
• Growth is another benefit of waiting on the Lord. Through meditation, we extract all the nutrients in the word and digest it in our spirit to enhance spiritual growth. As we grow, we take on the disposition that is well equipped for the vision.
• Another benefit of waiting is empowerment. "They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength." - Isa. 40:31. We are empowered both spiritually and physically to keep running with the vision. The Holy Spirit who is our companion is the one who empowers us as we submit to Him in prayer, worship and meditation.
• It also builds intimacy. Waiting on God through prayer draws us closer into a deeper walk with Him and brings us into constant communion with Him that we literally understand how He speaks to us and become quick is sensing His presence.
• Lastly, He builds patience in us through waiting. Hebrew 6:15 says, "And so after he had patiently endured (waited), he obtained the promise." We should not get impatient and consider helping God fulfill His own promise by our human ability but we should patiently wait on Him who is faithful to every of His promises.
Dear woman of strength and honour, just like the eagle you will walk and not faint, you will also run and not grow weary as you patiently wait on the Lord for the delivery of His promises!
